Borealis is a leading provider of innovative solutions in the fields of polyolefins, base chemicals and fertilizers. The global company is headquartered in Vienna and on October 13th they invited 30 SCM Network members to visit their plant in Schwechat, in cooperation with the Corporate Section of the SCM Network.
For security reasons, everyone got equipped with security glasses, jackets, pants and shoes before we were taken on an extended walking tour of the plant. Three knowledgeable guides from the material flow team showed us around the filling and packing areas. Every year roughly one million tons of plastics leave the site either in bulk, in huge octagonal cardboard containers or pallets full of plastic bags.
After the plant tour, Robert Mwasaru, the Head of Polyolefins Sales & Operations Planning welcomed us with a general introduction. After lunch, team members from Borealis’ Sales & Operations, Distribution and Materials Flow Team very openly shared interesting insights about their daily processes and challenges.
