Past Events

On October 11th 2019, cargo-partner hosted 30 SCM students at their headquarters in Vienna. Providing air, sea and land transport as well as warehousing and supply chain solutions, cargo-partner operates on an international level. Cargo-partner is a highly appreciated partner organization of the SCM Network and has acted as the network’s main sponsor since 2016.

The students were welcomed by Ina Henke, who guided through the visit as the HR representative. After an introduction to the company, two alumni from the WU SCM Master’s program presented their career paths and current positions at the company, providing first-hand experience and answers to many questions. This was followed by an introduction into Green Logistics by Stefan Frisch, who not only engaged in an interactive discussion with the students about the topic in general but also provided valuable insights into the current sustainability projects at the company. Marcel Potvorszki (another WU SCM alumnus) then introduced the students to SPOTworx, an innovative platform for information sharing along the supply chain. To give the students ample opportunities for networking, more cargo-partner supply chain experts joined the event for a relaxed lunch. The event was rounded up by a tour of the iLogistics Center, a state-of-the-art warehouse finished in the summer of 2018, given by Krisztian Abzalov.

On November 9th, Hilti hosted 12 SCM students at their regional distribution center in Vienna (RDCV) close. Hilti was founded in Liechtenstein and is a family-owned company which develops, manufactures, and markets products for the construction, building maintenance, energy and manufacturing industries, mainly to the professional end-user.

The students were welcomed by Carmen Theuns who has recently graduated from the SCM Master at WU. The presentations started with Richard Wagner, Head of the Logistics Europe Central East, giving an introduction about the company, their global logistics operations, some facts about their regional and global network and their talent recruiting strategies. Richard Wagner furthermore outlined that people development is a very important aspect at Hilti.

This presentation was followed by a tour through the tool service center (TSC) by Andreas Schweitzer, who is the head of the TSC. The TSC is located next to the distribution center in the same building. Hilti makes quite impressive promises to the customer when it comes to the duration of repairing a tool. Next, Anna Hobisch, Head of RDCV, showed us the warehouse and students were able to experience picking and packaging processes live. After that the students then had time to listen to the presentation about the start of SCM alumni Carmen Theuns and Sebastiaan Ottenheym at Hilti, while enjoying some fresh finger food. This site visit was then ended by a short Q&A session.

On January 19th, 30 members of the SCM Network had the opportunity to visit the site of Henkel CEE in the 3rd district of Vienna.

Henkel is a multinational corporation headquartered in Germany with major businesses and market-leading positions in the Adhesives, Beauty and Laundry markets. Brands like Schwarzkopf, Bref, Fa, Loctite, Pattex, Persil and many more are part of the Henkel Group.

We were warmly welcomed by Henkel employees working in different fields of Supply Chain and Operations management, who held very interesting presentations about Supply Chain management at Henkel and related challenges, as well as corresponding job opportunities. These presentations were followed by a plant tour through Henkel’s biggest liquid detergent factory worldwide, located right in the center of Vienna. Afterwards, networking took place over a nice lunch at Henkel’s canteen.

On March 6th, 15 students of the Supply Chain Management Network Vienna participated in a workshop with Accenture at WU. The topic of the evening “Consultant for One Night”, included a brief presentation of the consultants (all SCM Alumni) followed by different case studies, which had to be analyzed, discussed and solved by the participants.

To begin, the alumni Lukas Gisch and Daniel Kohlmann talked about Accenture as a company, its business model and global presence. Thereafter, three different case studies were presented, which focused on current topics and challenges on the market. The SCM Network members had the opportunity to handle these cases by working in groups and presenting their results to the Accenture consultants. A final discussion granted the students with useful feedback.

After these case study presentations, Accenture invited all participants to a get together with food and drinks in order to give the students the possibility to talk face-to-face to the instructors and gain additional information about their work at Accenture.
